The multi-ethnic Muslim communities all across New York City, were impacted in a variety of ways after September 11. Though they unequivocally condemned the attacks, Muslims still faced many challenges that redefined their roles as Americans and immigrants in the following years.
Many Muslims began to involve themselves in their communities as educators, multi-faith advocates of peace, anti-discrimination activists, and civil rights lawyers. With the help of other Americans, they provided fresh voices to the great chorus of peace and justice.
Today, the Muslim community is stronger due to their commitment to improve the lives of not just their own coreligionists, but also the well-being of New Yorkers in general.
